Lifelike Dental Bridges to Replace Your Lost Teeth
Missing teeth can affect your appearance, dental function, and self-confidence. Fortunately, a custom-made dental bridge can fill in the gap and blend seamlessly with your smile.
Dental Bridge Basics
A fixed dental bridge will literally “bridge the gap” left by your missing teeth. The entire restoration will be supported by two dental crowns, which will be created on the ends of the dental bridge and will be secured to the abutment teeth (which are the teeth that remain on either side of the gap) for support. The replacement teeth, or pontics, of the bridge will be made from a lifelike material, such as porcelain or zirconia, to offer a highly-realistic finish that is indistinguishable from your remaining healthy, natural teeth.
In addition to traditional bridges, we proudly offer implant-supported bridges. These highly stable restorations will sit on top of implant posts, which will be permanently set in your jawbone. At your consultation, Dr. Pietrok or Dr. St. Germain will help you determine whether you are more suited to a traditional or an implant-supported bridge.
How a Bridge Can Benefit You
Of course, the most obvious benefit of a dental bridge is the effect it can have on your appearance. By replacing your missing teeth, a bridge can rejuvenate your smile. Additionally, a bridge will fill out your lips and cheeks, restoring the youthful contours of your face. Along with the cosmetic advantages, a dental bridge also has important practical functions. Because your new restoration will fit so naturally into your dental arch, it can prevent the nearby teeth from shifting to fill in the gap in your smile. In this way, a bridge can prevent dramatic misalignment, and it can reduce your risk for bruxism and TMJ disorder. A bridge can also restore your dental function, so you can eat and speak normally.
Are You a Dental Bridge Candidate?
If you are missing one tooth or several adjacent teeth, you may be a good candidate for a dental bridge. To qualify for an implant-supported bridge, you must have enough healthy jawbone volume. If you are missing a larger number of teeth, Dr. Pietrok or Dr. St. Germain may recommend a custom-made denture.
